Mt Difficulty Bannockburn Petrea Pinot Gris 2017 - Half Bottle 375ml
Tasting Notes
Mt Difficulty Single Vineyard wines are a celebration of time and place. Named Petrea for the vineyard owner, Bannockburn Bay is a 0.57ha vineyard of terraced Pinot Gris; tucked into the Bannockburn Inlet, planted in 1997. Made in a late harvest style with residual sugar of 49gL-1, this clean & unctuous wine displays bold citrus and stone fruit aromas. White peach aromas combine with golden apple and nectarine counterbalanced by an undercurrent of bright mandarin. These same fruits explode on the palate with unrestrained enthusiasm, continuing right through the palate. The residual sugar helps to bring richness and balance to the wine without being cloying. This wine will age well, developing some delicious oiliness over time.
CELLARING POTENTIAL
Mt Difficulty Petrea Late Harvest Pinot Gris will improve for 7-12 years given optimal cellaring conditions.
Vintage Notes
VINTAGE 2017
A very interesting season - overall, we ended up with about an average amount of heat even though the season had a distinctly cool bend to it. A very warm wet spring kicked off the growing season in style with very early bud-burst. Just as we were entering into flowering the weather deteriorated with very cool weather being the norm right through late December. This impacted on flowering with lower than average yield.
WINEMAKING CONSIDERATIONS
This is the first time we have made a Petrea Late Harvest Pinot Gris. The fruit was harvested on the 10th May, with the picking decision being decided by fruit flavour and concentration alone. The fruit was hand harvested and processed with care. The juice was racked clean and fermented slowly to retain varietal expression. Chilling and racking the wine stopped the ferment, leaving residual sugar to provide balance and richness to the wine.
Alc. 13%. 3.48pH. T/A: 6.6. Residual Sugar 49 gL-1
