Vintage Notes
VINTAGE 2018
The 2018 growing season can best be described as a vintage of two halves. There was exceptional warmth from September through late January, kicking off the growing season at a rather brisk pace. When February arrived temperatures plummeted below average as rainfall soared well above average. This pattern of cool, wet weather persisted right through harvest. Ultimately the fruit from this vintage shows beautiful, fresh ripeness.
WINEMAKING CONSIDERATIONS:
Our Dry Riesling balances flavour and palate weight with natural acidity. The extreme early heat of vintage 2018 ensured our earliest picking date yet for our Dry Riesling. The fruit for this wine came off our Full Circle vineyard on the 23rd March. It was carefully hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed and fermented on full solids to help enhance palate weight. The wine was fermented relatively warm in stainless steel, using indigenous yeast to retain maximum varietal expression. The wine was fermented slowly to dryness, and then rested unstirred on its lees to build texture but not flavour. The wine stayed on lees for ten months and was then filtered and stabilised for bottling in February.
