Bannockburn Drinking window Pinot Noir 2014 Raymond Chan Review

MT DIFFICULTY BANNOCKBURN PINOR NOIR 2014 RECEIVES FIVE STARS AND 'WINE OF THE WEEK'
FROM RAYMOND CHAN, NEW ZEALAND WINE ADVISER, JUDGE AND WRITER

Dark, deep ruby-red colour with good depth, and lighter purple hues on the rim. The nose is soft and full, the fruit expression a little restrained, showing gentle layers of dark red cherry and berry fruit entwined with dried thyme herbs, red florals and subtle nutty notes. The aromatics grow in volume in the glass. Medium-bodied, the flavours are subtly and harmoniously melded with red cherry and berry fruit, thyme herbs and nuts, the flavours with sweetness and richness, supported and balanced by fine-grained, flowery tannins. The wine flows smoothly, the palate underlined by soft, integrated acidity. This is very well-proportioned and the wine flows effortlessly to a very refined, subtly-textured, lingering finish.
This is a very fine-featured, stylishly proportioned and balanced Pinot Noir with restrained richness. Match with poultry, pork, lamb and venison over the next 5-6 years. Predominantly clone 5, 6, 10/5 fruit with 113, 115, 667 and 777, from Bannockburn vineyards, indigenous yeast fermented with 20-35% whole bunches to 14.0% alc., the wine on skins a total of approx. 26 days and aged 12 months in 30% new oak. 18.5/20 Mar 2016 RRP $46.95
